Leaked: Google Nexus 4G Details

The Google Nexus 3 made a furtive appearance in the news a while back with no specs and a vague confirmation from Google that the Nexus family tree will continue to grow and now he Nexus 3 has popped up again with a little more detail to tempt your gadget tastebuds. The Google Nexus 3 (aka Google Nexus 4G in the US) is reportedly going to be released with the latest Android OS, Ice Cream Sandwich and a super-sized 720p HD screen, latest dual-core processor will be under the hood and an advanced 5-megapixel camera will be on the back. The camera will deliver Full HD video recording at 1080p and other umoured features include an impressive 1GB of RAM and also a design with no physical buttons allowing the software to handle all the navigation and shortcuts.

Google is two devices deep in a quest to deliver its vision of what a mobile device should be, while pushing the envelope forward as far as specifications and collaboration is concerned and Google’s next Nexus device possibly called the Nexus 4G, which is  going to be an absolute beast. The new Nexus will be powered by a dual-core 1.2GHz or 1.5GHz CPU, either a Texas Instruments OMAP 4460 or a low-power 28nm Krait-based Qualcomm Snapdragon chip, says BGR. If true, those specs run counter to earlier reports that the new Nexus would be outfitted with an Nvidia Kal-El processor. As befitting its potential name, the new phone would run over a 4G LTE network. Though no carrier was named by BGR‘s source, BGR thinks it could turn out to be one of the first LTE phones offered by AT&T. BGR‘s source also says the display will feature a 720-pixel high-definition monster-sized screen. Taking the overall interface to the next level, BGR says Google won’t include any physical menu buttons below the screen and will insted make the controls software-based, which follows earlier reports about the phone from tech site TechHog. The next-gen Nexus will carry 1GB of RAM, offer 1080p video capture and playback, and offer two cameras–a 1-megapixel camera in front, and a 5-megapixel camera in the rear. The rear camera is reportedly designed to offer good quality photos in low light conditions. Moving up to the next flavor of Android, the new Nexus will runAndroid 4.0, aka Ice Cream Sandwich, prompting BGR to speculate that the phone could be a “flagship/reference Ice Cream Sandwich device” rather than just another Google Nexus product.

Motorola Triumph For Virgin Mobile

Virgin Mobile lets Android run Blur-free on the Motorola Triumph and you’ll find no proprietary shell whatsoever sitting atop its new Motorola Triumph handset. Triumph escapes with a relatively standard install of Android 2.2 and MOTOBLUR will still be foisted on pay-monthly customers who buy a Photon 4G or XPRT from Sprint.

Sprint announced the Motorola Triumph, Motorola‘s first Android device for Virgin Mobile and the Motorola Photon may be getting all the attention right now, but the Triumph is worth a look if you’re interested in Virgin’s inexpensive prepaid plans. Packed with the latest NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor that also powers the Motorola Xoom, T-Mobile G2x and other new Android smartphones and tablets, the new Motorola Photon 4G is obviously one of the high-end smartphones to wait in the coming months. Motorola Photon 4G can shoot high-definition videos courtesy of 8 megapixel rear shooter, and can initiate and receive video calls with a front-facing VGA camera. Specs wise, the Photon 4G is obviously the Motorola Atrix 4G of Sprint Wireless, Atrix 4G is an exclusive Motorolasmartphone distributed by AT&T in USA. The new Photon 4G is also a cousin of Verizon’s upcoming Droid Bionic with LTE connectivity that might hit the market in the next coming months too. The Droid Bionic, Atrix 4G and the Photon 4G are capable of using Motorola’s high-end accessories or the so-called webtop add-ons including the popular LapDock that transforms your phone into a functioning laptop with Firefox browser.
Unlike the Atrix 4G though, the Photon 4G will include a brand-new, redesigned from ground up (I think they started from scratch again), and very promising Motorola user interface that will surely challenge the popularity of HTC’s Sense and Samsung’s iPhone-ish like TouchWiz that also received a revamp (now featured by the Galaxy S2). Verizon’s Droid Bionic is also expected to include the same new Moto UI, if I’m not mistaken. The new Motorola skin featured by Photon 4G also includes better design, and usability with the social networking widgets that look like the Metro UI of Windows phone. The new phone called “Triumph” of the prepaid carrier is packed with slightly modified vanilla Android FroYo (2.2) operating system. Basically, a stock Google Android smartphone is theoretically faster because of the absence of some heavy carrier bloatware, plus the RAM eating custom UIs that some manufacturers include. Surprisingly, PC Magazine is claiming that the almost untouched Android Frozen Yogurt plus 1 GHz processor-powered Motorola Triumph and its 480×800 4.1 inches (diagonal) touchscreen felt a bit sluggish. The RAM of the Triumph is 512 MB, which is quickly becoming the standard RAM of high-end Android smartphones.

Specs:

  • 4.1-inch Display: 800 x 480 (WVGA), Multitouch
  • Android 2.2 OS with Flash support
  • Size: 4.8″ x 2.5″ x 0.4″, Weight: 143 g
  • Connectivity: microUSB, 3.5mm , HDMI port
  • Dual Cameras: 5MP Rear, VGA Front
  • 720p HD Video Capture with HDMI Video Out
  • 3G (EVDO Rev A) and Wi-Fi Connectivity
  • Bluetooth 2.1

Sprint and Motorola Unveil Photon 4G

At today’s special press event in New York City, both Sprint and Motorola unveiled yet another Android superphone.  The Motorola Photon 4g is definitely beast of a phone.  It will come loaded with 1GHz Tegra 2 dual core processor, 16GB of storage, 8 megapixel 1080p HD capable camera, and to top it off it will run on Sprint’s WiMAX 4G data network.  The Photon 4G is a GSM/WCDMA world roaming phone, so it has the jet set business traveler in mind.

Software wise, it will come loaded with the latest Android 2.3 and will have the latest version of MOTOBLUR pasted on top.  With a 4.3 inch qHD (960×540) display, and very cool viewing kickstand on the back, this phone is ready for multimedia enjoyment.

What’s also interesting is the Photon looks to be compatible with Motorola’s accessory docking system, just like the Atrix 4G.  Neither Sprint nor Motorola said anything about the laptop docking setup, they seemed to talking about the TV Multimedia Dock and the Car Dock instead.  I am sure more details will arise, as we get closer to launch time.

Speaking of a launch date, all we know is that it will be available sometime in Q3 of this year.  Sprint also failed to mention and pricing, but by the looks of it, you could figure a $199 price point would fit in nicely.

Check out the Sprint press release below for any other details.

HTC ChaCha Rumored Of Upgrading Processor At 800mhz

HTC has reportedly upgraded the processor of the forthcoming HTC ChaCha. In Barcelona for Mobile World Congress and brought you coverage of the HTC press event. During that event the HTC Salsa and the HTC ChaCha were unveiled.

There’s still that 2.6-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen, 512MB of RAM, 512MB ROM, a microSD card reader, a 1250mAh battery, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, a 5-megapixel rear camera with flash, a QWERTY keyboard, a Facebook button, a VGA front facing camera and runs on Android 2.3 with HTC Sense UI.

The HTC ChaCha has already arrived at Europe, where it will sport a front-facing full QWERTY keyboard that makes it a snap to insert text, including a host of interface enhancements which would keep any social networker smiling from face to face.

Originally meant to be accompanied by a 600MHz Qualcomm CPU, it seems that HTC has decided to increase the clock speed by another 200MHz, and perhaps that could be because HTC decided 800MHz was the way to go if they want to maintain a balance between stellar battery life as well as performance. 800MHz would clearly place this in the lower end side of things compared to other newer Android smartphones that run on at least 1GHz with dual cores for some.

We know our customers are going to be thrilled about the HTC ChaCha’s arrival at Phones 4u, and we’re excited to be offering them a smartphone catered to their needs and what they enjoy doing most. We’re confident the HTC ChaCha’s going to be a huge hit with our youth audience,” said Scott Hooton, Trading Director at Phones 4u. “We’re excited to see how UK customers find the HTC ChaCha,” commented Jon French, Vice President Sales and Operations at HTC EMEA. “This model is completely different from any other handset we’ve developed and has been designed specifically for those who share their lives through Facebook as second nature. It’s a great fit for Phones 4u, offering its audience a great blend of smartphone performance with the enhanced ability to chat or share their thoughts, photos and location even more easily than before.” For further information on, or to pre-order the HTC ChaCha visit the Phones 4u website.
