Dell’s Prototype 7-inch Tablet With QWERTY keyboard

A prototype that’s lounging around within Dell’s top secret labs, a 7-inch slate that’s adorned with a slide-out keyboard. Said keyboard, however, is hardly typical it’s rocking a split-key design that’s not at all dissimilar to the virtual layouts recently showcased within iOS 5 and Windows 8.

According to Smith, Dell is working on multiple concept tablets, including one with removable screen like the Asus Transformer, but currently only the prototype with the sliding keyboard is being developed and has a high chance of being launched on the market.

While Dell is not yet sure of what operating system it will provide to the hybrid tablet, Smith said that the company has high expectations for Windows 8.

Even though this might be more than a hint, it is too early to assume that the 7-inch tablet will carry Windows 8 platform, especially that there are so many dual-booting tablets out there that can operate two operating systems.

On related news, the company is in the process of launching its 10-inch Dell Streak Pro tablet globally. Currently, the 10-inch tablet is about to make its official debut in China, but Dell stated that it would be released in Europe and US by the end of the year.

Update: So it turns out that these photos were actually taken by Tweakers, who met up with the crew from Dell’s Austin Design Center to gaze upon this prototype tablet earlier this week. Tweakers says that the concept is about three to four years old, and it eventually led to the development of the eccentric Inspiron Duo. Unsurprisingly, Dell also confirmed to us that this device will never make it to the market; but of course, there’s still the Streak 10 Pro Android tablet to look forward to.

For more detail and several pictures with Dell’s unnamed 7-inch prototype tablet visit Tweakers.net.

Sprint announces the Samsung Epic 4G

It might have a laughably bad name at the Samsung Epic 4G’s specs.A part of the Galaxy S family, the Epic 4G is Sprint’s second 4G WiMAX smartphone.

To go on sale later this year for an undisclosed price, the Epic 4G has a 4″ WVGA Super AMOLED display, sliding QWERTY keypad, 5 megapixel camera with 720p video capture, front-facing camera for video calling, GPS, Wi-Fi b/g/n, mobile hotspot support for five devices, six-axis motion sensor, 1GHz Hummingbird processor, and 512MB RAM / 1GB ROM. It will come to market running Android 2.1 — with a bit of help from Samsung’s TouchWiz 3.0, naturally — but Sprint has gone on the record as saying an update to Android 2.2 won’t be that far off once the Epic 4G is released.

Nokia announces X5-01 plus Nokia X6 8GB

Nokia presented Nokia X5-01 – a rather unusually shaped squarish slider with a full QWERTY keyboard. Nokia also refreshed Nokia X6 with a new 8GB version.

Nokia X5-01 runs Symbian S60 3rd edition and packs a 2.36-inch display of QVGA resolution. It’s got quad-band GSM connectivity and tri-band HSDPA support for world-wide roaming. Connectivity is further complemented by Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 and the microUSB and 3.5mm audio jack.

Speaking of the 3.5mm audio jack, the Nokia X5-01 is touted as having excellent sound quality and loud speakers. Music consumption on the phone will be enhanced by clever new gestures. For instance, you can spin the phone to jump to a random track.

In select markets Nokia X5-01 will be offered in Comes With Music package.

Besides an ear for music, Nokia X5-01 also has a knack for messaging and social networking. Besides integration of popular social networking services (Facebook, Twitter, Hi5, and MySpace), X5-01 also comes with popular Instant Messengers and support for multiple email accounts. Plus clever gestures pertain to messaging as well. A shake of the phone will show you your unread messages.

The Nokia X5-01 comes equipped with a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, but so far there is no word whether the camera has auto focus or not. There are no details on video recording either.
